Subject: Iroquois in Virginia

I am looking for information on the Iroquois Indians in the state of Virginia
for my 4th grade report. Can you be of any help? All of the stuff I have found
talks about Iroquois in NY, but not in Virginia.

The only information that I have on the Iroquois in the state of Virginia
is found in the "Handbook of North American Indians" vol. 15 published in
1978 by the Smithsonian Institution.  Meherrin and Nottoway were two groups
that lived in Virginia who are identified as Iroquoian.  They ultimately
disappeared as the result of colonial pressures.  Some of them were
absorbed by the Tuscaroras who ultimately became the sixth nation of the
Iroquois Confederacy.  My suggestion is that you get the aforementioned
book from a library.
